Former Speaker Rebecca Kadaga is indeed not a darling of the 11th Parliament.
The former speaker’s opponent will not rest until the last nail in her legacy is removed.
On Tuesday, the school named after her by the previous parliament where she was the undisputed queen, has been changed.
Parliament has passed the Parliamentary Amendment Bill 2021, which seeks to change once again, the naming of the Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga Institute of Parliamentary Studies to the Institute of Parliamentary Studies.
The 10th Parliament had renamed the institute in honour of its Speaker Kadaga who had served the House as deputy and full speaker for 20 years.
However, there is a group of people who believe Kadaga has pushed her brand too far.
If President Museveni assented to the bill, the school will train members of parliament and staff, on parliamentary affairs.
In the same bill, Parliament has also granted powers to the Deputy Speaker to chair the meetings of the Parliamentary Commission in the absence of the Speaker.
The previous speakers did not have this privilege. This makes Anita Among, the most powerful deputy speaker Uganda has had.
Already, DS Among has chaired more plenary sitting than her boss.
