Farmers in Luwero district who are involved in nursery tree farming have praised the State Minister for Luwero and Rwenzori Triangle, Hon Alice Kaboyo and the Office of the Prime Minister for the support extended to them to boost their business.
The farmers under the Twekembe Development Group in Nakasero parish, Wobulenzi Town Council, Luwero district recently received funding from the OPM to scale up their operation.

“We started this tree nursery in 2015 and recently the OPM sent us Shs 15million to boost our capital,” said the group chairperson Mrs Abbey Kalibbala.
“We used the money to get more seedlings and now we have avocado, oranges, mangoes and recently we have added coffee seedlings and we hope to get much more, now that our capital is boosted.”
Mrs Kalibbala says the group of 10 members has helped them increase their family incomes and also supported the communities around them.

“The people who come and buy our seedlings, we teach them how to plant them and take care of them and some of them have actually taken up the idea and started small nurseries for themselves,” she said.
Some of their customers, she says, include NAADS contractors who supply the seedlings to the farmers, as well as the locals.
On her part, Minister Kaboyo while responding to a request addition support to the farmers, called upon the farmers in the district to form more such groups so that government can come in to support them.
She also thanked Mrs Kalibbala and her group for providing an example for the rest of the residents in the district.
