The National Chairman for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) also President of Uganda Gen Yoweri Museveni has summoned the the party parliamentary caucus to discuss about the skyrocketing commodity prices and the controversial coffee deal.
In a letter seen by this website directed to the party Secretary-General, Dr Richard Todwong by the Principal Private Secretary to the His Excellency President Dr Kenneth Omana, the meeting is scheduled to take place on Tuesday at 02:00 PM at Kololo Independence grounds.
“This is to inform you that His Excellency the President will chair the NRM caucus meeting on 26th April 2022 at 02:00 pm at the Independence Grounds Kololo Kampala. The purpose of the meeting is for the members to receive a brief on the country’s economic situation. This letter, therefore, communicates the information in your further management,” reads the letter.
The Spokesperson of the NRM Parliamentary Caucus who doubles also as a Member of Parliament for Kagoma North Alex Brandon Kintu confirmed the arrangement and added that among other issues to be discussed are; Lubowa Hospital and the coffee agreement.

The meeting comes at the time when the country is in a crisis of escalating commodity and fuel prices which have led to an increase in transport costs all over the country.
Since the beginning of this year, prices for essential commodities have been escalating despite the fact that last month the Minister for Finance, Matia Kasaija urged Uganda that there is no cause for an alarm over the rise in commodity prices.
“The rise in prices in Uganda is much lower compared with current global trends. Inflation has risen everywhere in the world including advanced nations, for example, inflation in the US accelerated to 7.9% in Feb.2022, the highest they have recorded in 40 years,” Kasaija said.
According to Kasaija, the main causes of the increase in commodity prices are external and thus beyond the ability of policymakers in any one country to deal with directly.
