Ntungamo district officials have rejected cassava cuttings worth millions of shillings citing late delivery and that they were not even consulted on what they needed to plant.
According to the agricultural officer Ntungamo district, Atwiine Esther, the district never ordered for cassava cuttings but they were shocked to see three fuso trucks carrying 600 bags delivered on April 18, 2021 for distribution.
Atwiine noted that the rejected cassava planting stems supplied by the National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS) under the food and security program.
She revealed that they resolved to reject the cassava cuttings, saying they wouldn’t help farmer because Ntungamo District does not grow cassava on large scale.
The Operation Wealth Creation coordinator Ntungamo district, Brig General John Tumwebaze noted that they would have received the cassava cuttings but the dry season is approaching saying that when it is distributed, it will just get dry from gardens hence let others districts which are in need benefit from it but not Ntungamo.
The councilor for Itojo sub county Muhumuza Denis Savimbi said they rejected the cassava cutting because they were delivered late.
