The ministry of Health has said fully vaccinated Ugandans will not be required to wear face masks outdoors.
āFully vaccinated individuals will not be required to wear face masks when they are outdoors provided there are no crowds,ā said Minister of Health, Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, at Uganda Media Center on Wednesday.
She said wearing of face masks when one is indoors or in closed spaces like public transport, shops, schools and offices etc where two meters of social distancing can not be observed with other individuals, is required whether one is vaccinated or not.
She advised vulnerable or high-risk populations including the elderly, aged 50 years and above, and people living with co-morbidities irrespective of age, to keep their masks on at all times whether they are vaccinated or not.
No negative PCR test for fully vaccinated travellers
The Government also suspended negative PCR test requirements for incoming and out bound fully vaccinated travelers.
Aceng said the PCR requirement for the negative PCR test done within 72 hours pre-boarding for all incoming travellers, is suspended with immediate effect for the fully vaccinated.
Passengers will be required to show proof of full vaccination except for travellers aged five years and below.
Passengers with partial or no vaccination will still be required to present a negative test done within 72 hours of travel.
Fully vaccinated outbound travellers will also not be mandated to present a negative PCR test unless it is required by the country of their destination.
The ministry of Health will carry out scheduled and random sampling for inbound travelers.
āTo ensure appropriate Covid-19 surveillance among travellers, the Health ministry will be undertaking scheduled and random sampling of Covid-19 testing for inbound travelers,ā she said.
