RUKUNGIRI– The North Kigezi Diocesan Synod sitting at St Emmanuel Kinyasano in Rukungiri District on Monday appointed counsel Benin Agaba Maguru as the new diocesan chancellor replacing counsel Giggs Baryajunwa who has been working in the same position for a while.
Counsel Giggs the former North Kigezi diocesan chancellor did not show up for the synod meeting as a new one was being elected but according to Caretaker Bishop Patrick Tugume Tusigwire, Counsel Giggs had presented his retirement letter to his office.
The new diocesan chancellor will be deputised by counsel Isaac Atukunda from Kyatoko Parish and they will together lead the selected nomination committee that is going to screen the clergy who have interest in position of the Bishop.
The committee will choose two people whose names will be submitted to the house of Bishops at the province before 23rd November 2022.
The newly constituted nominations committee will comprise of Rev. Benson Akakwasa of Kitazigurukwa Church of Uganda, Rev. Dickens Baguma of Nyakeina Church of Uganda, the very Rev Erick Beingana Mugyezi who is dean Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasano, Rev Jolly Tumwesigye and Ven Polycarp Katwesigye the head of Clergy and who is also the Archdeacon of Kyamakanda Archdeaconry.
The committee will also have Male representatives including Canon Benon Kwikyiriza Baabo, Mugisha John Nyindombi and Canon Boaz Mategyero while female representatives will include Hon. Winnie Babihunga, Jolly Masheija and Canon Jolly Babirukamu.
The youth will be represented by Edson Matsiko, Leah Akankunda and Joab Tumwikyirize.
