KAMPALA- Facebook pages linked to NRM top bloggers have been hacked and deleted just a few weeks after Facebook accounts linked to NUP presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu were hacked and deleted too.
This comes just 4 days to Uganda’s General elections slanted for 14th January 2021.
Top accounts hacked include that of Ashburg Katto ,Bajjo Clear process, Jennifer Full figure and Isma Olexes.
Their accounts were hacked and deleted by an unknown person.
WHO IS BEHIND THE ACT?
Recently the Ugandan government through the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) complained in writing to US-based Google Inc and requested them to block up-to 14 online channels that were reported to belong to the NUP party.
Bobi Wine, on his official Facebook page reported that Ghetto Media and Map Mediya pages had been hacked into and deleted.
The NUP flagbearer while talking to the media asked his supporters to be calm as he assured them that their the pages as their major source of information were going to be restored or even new ones opened up if necessary.
On record, this was neither the first nor second time the accounts belonging to Mr. Kyagulanyi were being hacked and deleted, but this happened a numerous number of times.
Government security agencies have in the past continually accused the opposition presidential candidate of using social media to mobilize violence as was witnessed earlier on in the country where more than 50 people have now been pronounced.
The Bobi riots in November erupted in the country after the Kyadondo East Legislator vying for presidency was arrested for violating Covid-19 health guidelines.
This will be a huge blow to the NRM party which has been relying on those social media accounts to attack the opposition given that only a few days are remaining to head to elections.
