NEWS– Two people are reported to have died after the National Unity Platform Campaign team got involved in a road accident enroute to Omoro to seek support for their candidate Simon Toolit.
Reports coming in indicate that two people died instantly as NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi’s motorcade headed to Omoro County for a campaign trail.
The deceased were Kiggundu Yakubu Yusuuf aka Taata Husnah who is also the Kazo Angola Councilor in Kawempe division.
The second person has been identified as Iganga born Dennis Waiswa. The accident is said to have occurred in Kumi district.
“On a very sad note, Hon kiggundu Yakubu Yusuf and NUP’s Iganga born Dennis Waiswa died instantly and others like Hon. Nusifa Nakato are heavily wounded as they are now fighting for life in the nearby hospital” a NUP member posted.
The EC on Friday May 13, 2022 concluded nominations of candidates who are vying to fill the void that was left by the death of Jacob Oulanyah in what was a two-day exercise.
The EC’s Omoro district returning officer Moses Kagona said in a statement that out of the 12 candidates who picked nomination forms, only six fulfilled all the requirements.
“Six (6) candidates, namely; Onen Jimmy Walter (IND), Odonga Terence (IND), Tolit Simon Akecha (NUP), Kizza Oscar (ANT), Ojok Andrew Oulanyah (NRM) and Odong Justine (FDC) have been nominated to contest for the seat of Directly-elected Member of Parliament,” the EC said in a statement.
The Omoro County Constituency Parliamentary seat fell vacant on March 20th 2022 following the death of the former Member of Parliament and former Speaker of Parliament, the Rt. Hon. Jacob L’Okori Oulanyah in Seattle, America.
