Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate has made it categorically clear that no individual or Organisation will be allowed to display fireworks to usher in the new year 2021.
Maate however said that as per the directive from the Minister of ICT and National Guidance, no one will be allowed to display fireworks.
“Therefore all proprietors of public places who are intending to display fireworks are seriously warned against such practice because it attracts crowds amidst Coronavirus threats” Maate statement reads.
Maate also noted that the timing of fireworks display which is at midnight conflicts with curfew restrictions which is still being enforced and therefore people should be mindful of the fact.
Maate revealed without haste that the Security Agencies have deployed heavily to monitor all places within Kigezi Region to ensure that strict compliance of no fireworks display is adhered to.
The Police Spokesman warned that Police operations to counter all forms of criminality and acts of impunity are still in place with a view of apprehending the perpetrators of crime and any one caught will be dealt with accordingly.
