On Saturday morning, the residents were shocked to find the banana plantation of the deceased cut down by unknown people. A resident who chose anonymity for security purpose said that on Friday evening, she met a sister to the deceased and unidentified man in the said banana plantation.
Shocked Sylvia Kiiza a widow explains that on Friday, morning they went weeding the plantation, but she was shocked on Saturday morning finding it cut down by the yet to be identified people.
She further explained that last year, a section of the plantation and mango trees were also cut down.
Kiiza narrated that her late husband could tell her how the area chairperson Ms. Grace Basemereirwe and the sister in-law only identified as Annet were plotting to grab the land.
“Recently Basemereirwe came, and told me to pay the money she was demanding my late husband, but I told her to demand the grave,” Kiiza added.
The widow also adds that she has been getting money for tuition, and other necessities from the plantation which has been cut down. She is appealing to the government leaders to intervene and solve the matter since all children are stii young and school going stressing that her life is also in danger.
Francis Kwezi a resident, and closest friend to the deceased, suspects the area chairperson to be directly involved in the death of the Henry Birungi because they had a misunderstanding over the land.
Kwezi adds that they are planning to collect signatures and impeach the area chairperson because of the many evil acts she has been pinned pointed in.
Last year, the area chairperson imprisoned late Birungi on the grounds of attempting to rape her subjecting him to two weeks imprisonment and the victim passed on just a week later.
Our reporter couldn’t get a comment from the accused Ms. Basemereirwe the area chairperson since she was not available at her residence and her known phone number was unavailable by press time.
However, Police was already at the scene by the time this story was filed.
