NEWS- Rukiga district Legislators have pledged to continue lobbying for more services towards helping People living with Disabilities on top of advocating for their rights.
The Rukiga District woman MP Hon Kamusiime Caroline Muhwezi and the Rukiga county MP Hon Roland Bish Ndyomugyenyi were officiating at the official ceremony of giving out wheelchairs, and walkers to People with Disabilities in Rukiga district a function held at Pentecostal Assemblies of God Church Muhanga.
Over 160 wheelchairs and 10 walking sticks worth Ugx 61,500,000 were lobbied by the Rukiga District MP and were donated by Father’s House Mobility Ministry.
Speaking to our reporter after the distribution, Hon Kamusiime Caroline Muhwezi said that they lobbied for the wheelchairs after realizing a serious need among PWDs and elderly in the district.
Kamusiime showed concern on how PWDS have been isolated in accessing Public services like Education, Health Centres, Markets as well as in public.
The legislator warned the beneficiaries against selling the wheel chairs and urged them to practicing good eating habits to to prevent further Disability at an old age.

Hon Nyomugyenyi Roland Bish who was represented by His Political Assistant Chrispus Ainebyoona who urged the beneficiaries to put to good use of the wheelchairs to fulfill the intended goals of the donors.
Francis Mugwanya, the Director of Father’s Heart Mobility Ministry, an NGO based in Gaba Kampala suburb, said that PWDs face a challenge in assessing services such as Health and Education.
Mugwanya urged the beneficiaries to get something to do for survival stressing that Disability is not inability in that when given an opportunity; they can also work like any other person.
He thanked the are Legislators who approached his Ministry requesting for the wheelchairs after realizing the need for them by their electorates.

Hon Joseph Keijarubi the councilor representing PWDs at the District said that there is a need to have ramps in buildings within the district mostly in public offices to help her electorate to easily access them.
“Most of the schools, churches, Hospitals and other private buildings have no ramps something that becomes a burden for our People in accessing these offices” said Keijarubi.

Councilor Tumusiime, Jeninah Korinako, Sam Akampurira the beneficiaries of this project said that they had become a burden to their relatives who would lift them to and from outside to sunbath.
They added that the wheelchairs are going to help them easily move to different places like churches, markets and other public places.
