RUKUNGIRI– It was a pompous and glamorous Friday evening at Palm Royale Hotel in southern division, Rukungiri Municipality as a section of Rukungiri District leaders and residents bid farewell to the former Officer In Charge of Operations at Rukungiri Police Station ASP Walubo Benon.
The scientific function attracted members of the business community, religious and Political leaders as well as Members of the press whom he closely worked together with.
The day’s Chief Guest and the area Resident District Commissioner Stephen Bewayo Nsubuga through Col Martin Nahurira the Head of Operation wealth creation in the district hailed ASP Walubo for the resilience in service delivery during his stay in the district.
Bewayo asked the security personnel and other members of the public to always serve with due deligence so that they can be remembered and accorded similar farewells.
SP Musa Tibakirana the Rukungiri District Police Commander commended ASP Walubo for his differentiated, selfless service character that has seen him achieve alot.
SP Tibakirana asked the members of the public to be Security conscious especially during this time we are heading for Christmas and New year festivities stressing that Criminals are preparing to distablise the community.
The DPC decried increased cases of domestic violence in the district that have left many people dead others nursing injuries.
His comment followed a concern by the Chairman of the Rukungiri business community Chrysostom Byaruhanga alias Rwakaana who was of the view that suspects of such cases deserve maximum sentences to serve as examples to others who could be planning such crimes.
Rwakaana hailed the Police force for being pro people and went on to call for intensified operations to curb down criminality especially now that we are heading for festivities.
He on a special note hailed ASP Walubo for the perseverance and endeavouring service delivery during his term of office stressing that Rukungiri people will live to remember him.
Supretendant of Prisons Brenda Numuli who also graced the function hailed the cooperation that exists between the two government entities stressing that its the basis of excellent service delivery.
SP Namuli hailed ASP Walubo for creating a friendly environment between the security and community asking him to working harder and aiming at achieving more successes and promotions.
On his part, ASP Walubo Benon hailed leadership and the community of Rukungiri District for the warm welcome and cooperation exhibited to him during the time of his duty execution in the district since 2016.
ASP Walubo who has been transferred to the Human Resource Management office at Police Headquarters Naguru hailed his ex bosses including SP Moses Nanoka, SP Henry Kintu and SP Musa Tibakirana for allowing him time to showcase and execute his duties with ease attributing all successes to them.
He on a special note hailed SP Nanoka for a fatherly heart and trusting him when he was fresh from the course to handle some of the tasks in the Policing District of Rukungiri.
ASP Walubo who asked the community to embrace his transfer for it’s normal in service highlited some of the achievements during his days not limited to arresting armed robbers, enforcing curfew guidelines, calming down the tense situation that always characterised the Rukungiri District post primarily games as well as ironing out criminals in hotspot areas of the District.
He asked for forgiveness wherever he could have gone wrong or harsh against community members in line with duty asking whoever that is slated to take on from him to ensure maximum cooperation with the community for easy execution of his/her duties.
During the function, ASP Ronald Muhumuza was welcomed and introduced as the new Rukungiri Police Station Officer in Charge replacing ASP Edwin Atukunda who was transferred to Nakaseke District.
ASP Muhumuza who will also be handling the office of Police Operations at the station noted that it was a challenge for a Police officer receiving such a farewell stressing that he will also serve to the Community’s expectation during his term of office.
ASP Muhumuza previously worked in Alebtong District, Kitezi, Kasangati, Kira road, Lira District among other areas.
Christopher Wakyaya the Rukungiri District Internal Security Officer who was the function’s organising Chairperson hailed ASP Walubo for the passion he exhibits whenever he’s on duty and the level of handling the public inline with duty calli upon all the officers to emulate him or even serve better.
Richard Babo Kamugisha the director of operations at the Uganda Electoral Commission who was the day’s special guest in a message delivered by the District malaria focal person Dr Edison Muhwezi Mpirime hailed ASP Walubo for being such a hardworking young man stressing that the future is bright.
