RUKUNGIRI– Tension, flares and divisios continue to befall Nyakishenyi Sub County leadership following last week’s drama at headquarters after councilors stormed the sub-county Chief’s Office over the delayed release of their Ex-gratia money.
The money in question is a golden handshake that councilors are entitled to receive from the government monthly as a token of appreciation for their distinguished services.
Councilors from the 9 parishes that make up Nyakishenyi sub-county on Friday at around midday stormed the office of the sub-county chief demanding an explanation on why the government has delayed to release their ex-gratia after realizing that other sub-counties have already received theirs.
It was from here that a fight broke out after the Nyakishenyi sub-county chairperson Wednesday Twinomujuni tried to block their access to their destination explaining that although other sub-counties had received their ex-gratia, Nyakishenyi was yet to and no reason to storm the Chief’s office.
During the fracas as the councilors forced their way to the Chief’s office, the sub-county speaker Asimwe Lovence was hot slapped in the altercation as tempers flared between the leaders.
The tempers only cooled after Twinomujuni and Chief Tumushabe Robert from nowhere gotten them they claim to have been from other sources and the Councilor’s ex-gratia as they wait for government releases.
