NEWS– President-elect William Ruto has promised to announce new fertiliser prices next week, after he is sworn-into office.
Speaking during a church service in Meru County on Sunday, the incoming president said he held a 3-day talk with stakeholders in the agriculture sector.
“We have many tea farmers, and the price of fertiliser is now around Ksh 6,000. I have held talks with people from the Ministry of Agriculture and I will announce new fertiliser prices that will be subsidised next week,” he said.
Ruto told Meru residents that his government is on a journey to reform the agriculture sector from next week.
Additionally, the president-elect said Kenyans should expect a drop in the price of Unga since fertiliser will be subsidised.
“I have held talks with the Ministry of Agriculture to address the price of Unga. Next week, I will announce to our farmers. Unga prices will start going down,” he said.
The prices of Unga went high in August after the Government ended its subsidy scheme with millers that started in July.
Then, outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta had issued a decree that a 2KG of Unga should drop from Ksh. 205 to Ksh. 100.
