NEWS– A 22 year-old-Rwandan national man has been burried alive by sand quarry in kabale district.
According to Elly Maate the kigezi regional police spokesperson the deceased has been identified as Emmanuel Twishime a resident of Mariba village, Nyamiyaga parish, Rubaya Sub County, Gicumbi district in Rwanda.
Maate said that the unfortunate incident was reported by Kabagambe Robert 36 years, the chairperson Lc 1 Kiyovu village, Kacerere ward, Ryakarimira town council in Kabale district.
Maate told the press that yesterday at around 7:00am, the deceased and eleven others crossed from Rwanda side to Kiyovu village Uganda, through Kiyovu porous boarder to excavate sand for one only known as Saidi at his sand quarry found with in Kiyovu village.
He adds that, during the excavating process, at around 10:00 am, the sand quarry collapsed and fell on him thereby killing him instantly, others survived, some with injuries and were whisked to their country Rwanda.
He noted that a report was reported at Rubaya police station who in turn reported the matter to Kabale central police station.
He said that scene was visited by D/CID/O and the body was taken to Kabale referral hospital mortuary pending postmortem.
Astatement on death incident was registered at kabale central police station under reference number CRB 466/2022.
