NTUNGAMO- New strange diseases “Onion blotch” and “Dumping off” have been spotted in onions and cabbage gardens in Rwentobo-Rwahi town council in Ntungamo District.
This was revealed by the senior Scientist rainbow Agro Science Ltd, Ahangaana Julius Peter while meeting Agro dealers and Farmers in Rwahi town council.
According Ahangaana, the two diseases have already attacked a number of gardens leaving many farmers counting losses.
During the Farm clinic visits and Diagnosis/ Demonstrations, Ahangaana learnt that many farmers have severally used many herbicides but all in vain.
Ahangaana advised farmers to now use the new herbicides like Twinstar which contains a big percentage of “Trifloxystrobin and Tebuconazole” which help to uproot the disease from their gardens and “Punto” pesticide which helps to kill highbreed pests.
He noted that these two herbicides can be used from the bed up to Harvest.

He also encouraged farmers to consider planting seasons stressing that too much rain causes diseases like bright Blotches as too much sunlight “Draught” brings alot of insect pests like Onion mites, Aphids, Leaf mines among other.
