By Hussein Kiganda Ugandan animation movie No Way Out has been nominated in the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAAs) 2022. The award ceremony will run from October 26 to October 30, 2022 in Nigeria. The animation will battle it out with On The Surface from Nepal, Opal from Martinique, Kenda from Ivory Coast, Skin Like Mine from the US and PTD from Nigeria. No Way Out is about a prisoner called James who makes a plan to escape from Luzira with a new inmate brought to his cell. The two must make efforts to get out of the prison, but are limited by the tight security. The inmate manages to escape, but he falls into the hands of security. The story was inspired by a true story of the 219 prisoners who escaped from a prison in Moroto district in 2020. Its director, Ashraf Mulima, feels honoured to represent the country internationally. He advised fellow youth to stick to whatever they are doing, as long as it’s productive. Who is Ashraf Mulima? Mulima is an actor, director, producer, and animator. His other movie, A Thousand Fate, won The Best Animation at both the Uganda Film Festival 2021 and the Africa Movie Academy Awards 2021. He is also known for other animations; Double Deal and Split up. With these animations, he has represented the country at the Craft International Film Festival 2021, Indie Film Festival 2021, African Women Mobile Film Festival 2021, Sotambe International Film Festival 2021, Lift Off Global Film Festival 2021, and has scooped four awards from the festivals. As an actor, Mulima featured in My Only Son, Freedom and the TV series, Mistakes Galz Do as Marvin.
