NEWS– The Uganda Traffic Police Spokesperson, Faridah Nampiima has confirmed that 2 people died last evening in a single fatal accident along Nile Avenue, in Kampala city.
Nampiima told journalists that the single deadly accident that happened evening at around 7:30pm, involved a motor vehicle, Toyota Hiace, registration number UAW 987Y.
Nampiima blamed the accident on over speeding commuter taxi that was travelling from the direction of Speke Road facing Clement Road with unknown numbers of passengers on board and lost control when the brakes failed as it approached a sharp corner.
Nampiima explained that the driver failed to negotiate the corner, it eventually fell down into the subway roundabout killing two occupants on spot and while many unidentified passangers sustained serious injuries.
Ms Nampiima said that the the Police arrived at the scene and rushed the injured victims to Mulago Hospital and took bodies of the deceased to the City Mortuary for postmortem examination and the Police Fire and Rescue Services team later arrived at the scene and removed the wreckage and towed it away.
