NTUNGAMO- The Government of Uganda has been commended for supporting non profitable and charity organizations in a bid to reduce the rampant road carnage in the country.

This was said on Monday by the Ntungamo District boss Mucunguzi Samuel as the chief guest during the official launching of the Uganda Red Cross Society Ambulance in Ntungamo District at Ntungamo district Branch offices.

Mucunguzi noted that road carnage in the district has increased due to careless driving, over speeding and alcohol influence. The district boss assured total support to the Uganda Red Cross Society Ntungamo branch for the betterment of the communities.

Robert Kwesiga the General secretary Uganda Red Cross noted that there is a debate between the government and Uganda Red Cross to have all government ambulances managed and monitored by the society.

Kwesiga noted that this will reduce the poor handling of these ambulances by government officials.

Hon Stephen Tashobya, the Uganda Red Cross chairman Ntungamo Branch thanked the government and Red Cross for considering the District to have ambulances among the 23 ambulances in the under the society.

Hon Tashobya asked the public to join the Red Cross as a way to increase support instead of depending on donations.

Deputy RDC Ntungamo Robert Kamuntu asked the beneficiaries to manage the ambulance well to serve its purpose.

Baherezibwa Edson the head of volunteers noted that they selected highways which are considered to be hot spot areas and prone to accidents stressing that the ambulances will support emergency evacuations.

He commended Mayor Jacob Kafureeka and the municipal council for allocating land where the Red Cross will construct its administrative block.

Other speakers were the patron Red cross Mama Lillian Ahimbisibwe, Mayor Jacob Kafureeka and Tanyebwa Collins the branch manager.

Uganda Red Cross deployed 10 ambulances, with committed staff and trained response and rescue teams to support the ambulance operations at the 10 districts where these will be stationed.

The ambulances will be stationed at the following highways, Kampala, Jinja, Mbale, Masaka, Lira, Gulu, Mbarara, Ntungamo, Kabarole, and Hoima

The ambulances that are classified and equipped as class B.
