Ugandan movies are gaining penetration into the global market in bits. Many of them have been selected to screen at different festivals, an indicator that the industry has developed in production and ideation.
Well, the latest film to gain selection at an international festival is “Your Turn”. It will be screening at the American-based Silicon Valley African Film Festival in California, the USA in October. The organizers of the festival wrote to its producer Douglas Byaruhanga in confirmation that his film had bagged the opportunity.
“We are happy to inform you that your film YOUR TURN has been selected to screen in our 2022 film festival on October 13 – 16, 2022 at Historie Theater in San Jose, California, USA,” the Festival organizers wrote to Byaruhanga.
Byaruhanga told The Kampala Sun that the opportunity would win the market for his movie in the USA and the world over. He urged other filmmakers to consider submitting their movies to international festivals.

“It’s a great opportunity for me and Uganda. The market in the US is large and strong and the festivals will help me reach this market. I am happy with the selection. If other Ugandan filmmakers would submit their films to international festivals, it would help us to gain more market,” Byaruhanga said.
Directed by Samuel Saviour Kizito, “Your Turn” is a story about a University journalism graduate and aspiring human rights activist, Melissa, who is drastically introduced to the world of success and elites after meeting the handsome, rich, seemingly endearing, and conniving Mugenyi. As her social status soars, her private life is made a whirlwind of grey emotions. The story revolves around the repercussions of a romance gone sour, bringing sexual politics into play, with the unfortunate occurrence of revenge taking center stage.
