KABALE– The outspoken priest of Kitanga parish in Kabale diocese Rev. Fr. Gaetano Batanyenda has blamed the fuel crisis and rise of commodity prices to irresponsible and unconcerned political leaders in Uganda.
Fr. Batanyenda made the revelation during his weekly press conference in Kabale municipality. He said that it’s very worrying and shameful to that leaders are keeping quiet over this crisis and putting emphasis on things that don’t benefit Ugandans.
“Do MPs and Ministers vehicles belong to them or to Ugandans, do they pay for the fuel they use? They use our money whether commodities and fuel prices shoot high, for them they don’t mind. MPs and Ministers should be using these vehicles while doing government jobs but not doing their private things. Otarumirwe Tatembura” Fr. Batanyenda says.
Fr. Batanyenda added that even though the crisis cuts across the world because of the Russia and Ukraine war, the pain is not the same stressing that the matters of fuel crisis originate from lack of fuel reserves.
To his disappointment, Fr. Batanyenda revealed that in President Idi Amin Dada’s tenure, the government had fuel reserve tanks in Jinja that were in use but to date they are there but non functional.
