National Unity Presidential candidate has appealed to security forces not to be used to mess up their own country or kill their own people.
“Standing against Gen Museveni is a bigger crime like any other, many arrests are being made, abductions are being made,” Bobi Wine said Tuesday while appearing on a joint press conference at Hotel Africana in Kampala.
“It is unfortunate that as all these things are happening, the Electoral Commission (EC) is silent and instead blaming the victims,” he pointed out.
He encouraged the voters to turn up in large numbers and exercise their rights.
“Do not pay attention to Mr Simon Byabakama’s illegal pronouncements. You’ll not be breaking any law by staying at the polling station.”
“I implore you to use the cameras on your phones, we shall need all that evidence.”
Bobi Wine also revealed that two of his gardeners were arrested and his security guard was beaten during the army raid at his Magere home.
“We are raising our voices as forces of change and calling upon all Ugandans to come in big numbers and vote for change. We encourage voters to stay at the polling station after voting. There is no law that you will be breaking if you stay behind.”
To security, he said: “Don’t be used to mess up your country. Don’t be used to murder people. You can’t finish all Ugandans and you won’t be proud of yourself.”
“I want to associate myself with the communication from my colleagues Gen. Mugisha Muntu and Patrick Oboi Amuriat. Standing against Museveni is a more dangerous crime than any other in Uganda. Last night, there were raids on some of my leaders and security personnel. My team was also arrested while we were in Kalangala.”
He went on: “We have informed the EC that our polling agents are being arrested. The EC has been and continues to be silent even when we raise this challenge in writing and physically.”
“We know that this is being done to intimidate and discourage people from turning up in large numbers to vote. We are raising our voices in unison and agreeing that it’s time for Uganda to have change. By now, we know all voters know who they want to vote for. It’s your single vote that’s going to change the future of this country.”
On defections, Bobi Wine said he doesn’t know the people they say are defecting.
But also you know, defecting from NUP and People Power is a lucrative business,, he told NBS on Monday.
“We have borrowed and borrowed. But again, what has the money done? You only see more teargas, more bullets and more patrol cars. We don’t want numbers (GDP) we want the lives of our people improved.”
He said the people in uniform, their wives die while giving birth, they live in “Mama yingiya pole”, the promotions are selective, it is only a few bosses that are connected to the president.
“You are being used by an old tyrant. Serve the nation but not the dictatorship. problem we have today is that an individual has usurped the powers of all the institutions. The priority is not to better the lives of our people. The ideas are put on the table. Figures are being thrown around but don’t translate into real life.”
