Government has announced Thursday January 14th 2021 and Friday 15th as a Public Holidays, to allow all Ugandans especially those employed, to take part in the General Election.In a letter dated 13th January 2020 from the Ministry of Public Service Permanent Secretary Catherine Birakwate, the general public is informed that tomorrow and Friday shall be observes as Public Holidays throughout Uganda.“The Hon. Minister of Public Service informs the general public that Thursday 1th January 2021 and Friday 15th January 2021 will be observed as Public Holidays throughout Uganda to enable citizens participate in the election of the President and Members of Parliament” Part of the letter reads.On Thursday, Ugandans will go to polls to elect a President and Members of Parliament for their respective areas. While winners of the Parliamentary seats are announced on voting day, vote counting for Presidential candidates will end on Sunday 18th January 2021.With uncertainty and fear for violence, many Ugandans have left Kampala and gone back to their villages. Kampala today looks like a ghost city and is expected to remain the same until city dwellers are convinced of safety in the streets.Tomorrow’s election has attracted 11 Presidential candidates including the incumbent President Yoweri Museveni.
