Independent presidential candidate John Katumba Monday addressed a press conference on military brutality at Rubys Cafe Restaurant in Ntinda, a Kampala suburb.
“A man in plain clothes squeezed my balls and my stomach. He pushed his hand there,” said Katumba while pushing his arm in his pants to demonstrate how it happened.
On security personnel who nearly killed him in Fort Portal city recently, he cited non-uniformed people he termed ‘kifeesi’ (goons) who attacked his guards.
“He (kifeesi) pointed a gun at me trying to shoot me. He told my guard ‘I will kill you’.”
According to Katumba, the plan was to kill him and blame the murder on his bodyguard.
“I’m not safe or secure. They told my guards just to escort me not to protect me. I hear it’s Orders from Above. Who is that orders from above?” he wondered.
Katumba asked the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Okoth Ochola and CDF Gen David Muhoozi to explain the plain-clothed operatives who choked his guard, trying to kill him in Fort Portal city.
“We ask for security and you send us kifeesi. They tried to make my bodyguard shoot me and blame him for my death. They have now withdrawn him and given me another who is just following me instead of protecting me.”
Katumba said what shocked him was people who are not in uniform attacking those wearing police and army uniform.
Katumba now wants a bullet-proof vest after surviving what he termed an assassination attempt in Tooro sub-region.
“I’m not safe. They told this guard to escort me not protect me,” he said.
