The appointed organizing committee members
Buganda Kingdom’s premier Owek Charles Peter Mayiga has appointed an 11-man committee that will organise a successful 2020 virtual Kabaka’s Birthday Run.
The organizing committee was unveiled by the first deputy Katikkiro, Hajji Twaha Kigongo Kaawaase on Thursday at Bulange, Mengo.
Kaawaase was appointed as the committee chairman and will be deputized by Buganda kingdom’s minister of Sports, Youth and recreation, Owek Henry Sekabembe Kiberu.
“We are tasked to organize a successful 2020 virtual Kabaka’s Birthday Run and attract many participants across the country in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. We therefore call-upon all the Kingdom’s well-wishers to buy the marathon kit and take part in the run from your respective homesteads,” Hajji Twaha Kaawaase noted.
Other committee members include Dr Prosperous Nankindu Kavuma (Minister of Education and Health), Ronald Kawadwa (Executive Director Majestic Brands), Josephine Nantege (Permanent Secretary in Katikkiro’s office), Adam Sematiko (Buganda Kingdom Sports Officer), Major Musaazi (Head of Buganda Kingdom’s security), Joseph Kawuuki (State minister for Local governments), Mugagga and Zaake.
This year’s Kabaka Birthday Run was initially scheduled for April but was postponed to 29th November following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Kabaka of Buganda, His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II will flag off the marathon in a “scientific” function that will attract not more than 200 invited guests.
The Joint United Nations program on HIV and AIDs (UNAIDS) country Executive Director Winnie Byanyima will be the special invited guest.
