Army, NUP Speak out on Bobi Wine Bodyguard Frank Ssenteza’s Death

Frank Ssenteza, a personal bodyguard of presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, has this Sunday afternoon died in a suspected accident in Busega – about 10 kms from Kampala.
The National Unity Platform (NUP) said Ssenteza was “deliberately knocked dead in Busega by a military vehicle as we drove from Masaka to Kampala to get further treatment for Kasirye Ashraf” , who was earlier injured in a fracas with police in Masaka.
However, army spokesperson Brigadier Flavia Byekwaso said the deceased fell off a speeding car.
“UPDF would like to clarify that the late Senteza Frank a @NUP_Ug candidate close protection person was not knocked by a Military Police Vehicle as purported, but rather fell off a speeding Car Reg No UBF 850z (Drone) he tried to jump to but fell off,” said Byekwaso in a Tweet late Sunday.
Videos released by NUP show Senteza’s body covered in blood in the busy Busega town.
“We need to remain firm,” said Bobi as he delivered the news to People Power supporters today.
“They want to break us but we have to fight on. It will a painful yet rewarding journey in the end,” he emphasised.
Earlier, online Ghetto TV cameraman, Ashraf Kasirye and several journalists were injured by a teargas canister in Masaka.
Police said its task team in Greater Masaka had violent confrontations with the NUP candidate and his supporters at a check point in Kyabakuza after they defied the route plan agreed upon to Kyotera District.
“Tear gas was used to quell the violence and journalists were regrettably caught up during the process of dispersing the violent group. Notably among them was a Ghetto TV crew member identified as Ashraf Kasirye, who sustained blunt force injuries above the left eye allegedly from a canister,” said police spokesperson Fred Enanga.
“The victim was rushed to Masaka Referral Hospital for medical attention. He remains stable but in serious critical condition and on transfer to Kampala for better management.
Our Media crimes department has taken interest in the matter and opened a casefile to investigate the circumstances.”
