Big Story: Patricko Mujjuuka, Eddy Yawe, Ssegirinya, Mubiru James, Kakande and others denied NUP MP ticket. Whisper Eye Reports
Shock as many popular and charismatic leaders denied NUP tickets under unclear circumstances.
The opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) released the much waited list of party MPs yesterday evening.
On the list, Former DP spokesperson experienced Kenneth Paul Kakande was dropped in favour of Mr Joel Ssenyonyi in Nakawa West.
Kakande is one of the very few bleed of disciplined and trusted leaders in Uganda.
He joined NUP party from the Democratic Party under the arrangements of DP Bloc and appointed the spokesperson of the DP Bloc political platform under National Unity Platform (NUP) party.
Popular radio presenter Patricko Mujjuuka was also dropped by Bobi wine’s NUP party in Nakifuma.
Mr Mujjuuka’s morning popular program ‘Kalasa Mayanzi’ on Central Broadcasting Services (CBS) has made him more popular and loved by residents of Nakifuma county in Mukono district.
He is among the few people who joined People Power, Our Power Movement before merging to form NUP party.
Despite of his popularity and loyal to the struggle to oust president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Mr Mujjuuka was denied NUP ticket.
Privy sources close to NUP president Kyagulanyi Robert Ssentamu a.k.a Bobi Wine told Whisper Eye that his worsened relationship with singer Eddy Yawe was directly involved to deny him party ticket.
Mr Eddy Yawe joined politics in 2011 and his votes were rigged by the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Kampala Central constituency losing to Muhammad Nsereko.
On Kawempe North, NUP has failed to decide on their candidate.
Among those on top of the list are Mr Sulaiman Kidandala Sserwadda who has the highest chances of winning the constituency for the party.
However on the other hand, there is Mr Ssegirinya Muhammad popularly known as Mr Update who has been active in the party.
In Rubaga North, NUP has also failed to agree on the MP candidate for the constituency.
However although Mr Mubiru James has been active in the party even before the merger, during the days of People Power Movement he was dropped.
The dropping of such leaders has a direct negative impact on the party Experts warn.
Whisper Eye efforts to get a word from NUP leadership was futile.
