Police says they have removed a security check point outside Bobi Wine’s residence
Uganda Police has dismissed claims that NUP Presidential candidates Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) that officers this morning raided his residence in Magere and arrested his bodyguard.
Bobi Wine told press on Tuesday that his house was invaded and two of his gardeners were arrested while one of his guard was beaten up by security.
Addressing Press at the Naguru Police Headquarters this morning, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman Luke Owoyesigire said no one was arrested at Bobi Wine’s home as alleged.
Instead, he clarified, the officers went in to remove a security check point which has been placed outside of Bobi Wine’s home.
“We just went there to remove a check point which we had placed there to impove secueity in the area. As you all know, Bobi Wine has security guards from the Eelectoal commission. These guards don’t live inside his gate, they live outside. None of them was arrested. If Bobi Wine knows of anybody that was arrested, he should give us their name.” he said.
Owoyesigire however, said security at this moment could not give further details on why the check point was removed from Bobi Wine’s home.
Meanwhile, the police mouthpiece cautioned political candidates against carrying out any more campaigns now that they campaigning period has ended.
The campaigns officially close this evening and the presidential and parliamentary elections will be held on Thursday January 14th
