• Busoga United 1-2 Vipers SC (Agg 1-5)
Vipers Sports Club, with an avalanche of experienced players matched onto the next round of the Stanbic Uganda Cup after a 1-2 win against Busoga United at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru on Friday.
Yunus Sentamu and second half substitute Lawrence Tezikya ensured the Venoms progress with a 1-5 aggregate past Busoga United whose consolation came through Isaac Wagoina.
The reverse fixture between sides had ended 3-0 in favour of the Venoms at the St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende courtesy of Ibrahim Orit and brace hero Ceaser Manzoki.
The Venoms went into the lead after 24 minutes when Richard Basangwa made a scintillating run on the left, outpaced his marker Shafik Kakeeto and laid a low drive for a fine finishing by the resurrecting forward Sentamu.
In the second half, goalkeeper Fabien Mutombora collected a well curled free-kick by Ivan Wani while Paul Ssekulima’s shot went off target as the hosts kept pressing for the equalizer.
Busoga United custodian Rogers Omedwa narrowly escaped after sleeping on the job as Bobos Byaruhanga intercepted his sloppy clearance but the resultant ball went few inches wide.
In the 64th minute, super substitute Wagoina drew matters level. He raised high to head home Ivan Wani’s towering corner from the right on the near post past Vipers’ export Mutombora.
In the 85th minute, old boy Tezikya pummeled his former paymasters Busoga United on his return to Jinja. He met a defense breaking pass from Joseph Dhata in box and chipped it over a diving Omedwa for the second.
Isaac Wagoina would have been the hero for Busoga United when he found a loose ball off Shakka Ssozi but ballooned it over and above the cross bar from six yards.
Vipers SC now progresses to the round of 16 but both sides will faceoff in the return leg of the Uganda Premier League at Kitende next week on Tuesday.
