Uganda Records Largest Single-day Increase in Coronavirus Deaths to 14

Covid-19 has this Friday claimed 14 lives in Uganda – the highest death toll in a single day since the outbreak of the pandemic in March, 2020.
The Health Ministry said this brings to 131 the cumulative deaths to-date.
At least 284 cases of Coronavirus were also confirmed on Nov. 5.
The shocking development underscores the need to increase awareness about the danger of COVID-19 and prevention means.
According to the second round of the Uganda High-Frequency Phone Survey on COVID-19 (UHFPS) conducted in July/August 2020 by Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), majority of Ugandans have abandoned the safe practices in preventing the spread of Coronavirus.
“There was a drastic decline in the reported prevalence of safe practices in the second round,” UBOS’s survey report seen by ChimpReports reads in part.
“Compared to Round 1 in June, significantly fewer respondents reported that they reduced the number of times they went to the market; avoided groups of more than 10 people and physical greetings; and washed hands more frequently in the last 7 days prior to the interview in July-August.”
The change was observed across rural and urban areas and across both male and female respondents.
The Health Ministry has been running campaigns encouraging Ugandans to wear masks, practice social distancing and avoid gatherings to prevent further spread of COVID-19.
The infections are expected to rise as the country prepares for 2021 general elections.
