The two suspected goat thieves before they were lynched
Five people including two local council leaders in Rubanda district have been arrested by police for allegedly partaking in the mob justice in which two suspected goat thieves were beaten to death.
The arrested are James Kabagambe the LC 1 chairperson of Rwere village and Ivan Nkwasizehi the LC 1 of Kirwa village all in Bubare Parish.
Others arrested include Isaac Byamukama, George Tukundane both from Rwere village and Alex Nuwareba of Kirwa village.
The deceased are Tom Tumwesigye and Gracious Arinda, both residents of Rwere village in Bubare sub county in Rubanda District.
Elly Maate The Kigezi Regional Police says the five suspects were arrested after one Obed Kitabutuka, a Rubanda direct councillor reported the case at Rubanda Police Station.
According to the police mouthpiece, on the morning of November 15th 2020 at Rwere trading centre, a mob beat up Tumwesigye and Arinda after they were accused of stealing goats belonging to a 78 year old woman identified as Serediana Nyamitwe.
The suspects had allegedly sold the goats to a local butcher.
He says after severe beatings, the suspects were taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital from where they succumbed to wounds the following day.
