Fik Gaza Blocked From Entering Parliament During Copyright Talks

Security at Parliament earlier today stopped Ugandan singer Fik Gaza from entering as fellow musicians gathered to meet lawmakers over the recently passed copyright law.

Several artistes entered the meeting to discuss how the new law will work and how it will protect musicians’ work and earnings.

However, security prevented Fik Gaza from joining the discussions.

The incident disappointed the singer, who questioned why he missed a conversation that directly affects creatives like him.

Many musicians welcome the new copyright law, saying it will strengthen intellectual property rights and help artistes earn fairly from their music.

But the situation quickly sparked debate online as fans and fellow artistes discussed whether the incident resulted from miscommunication or exclusion.

As discussions about the law continue, some industry players now call for broader inclusion so every artiste can contribute to shaping the future of Uganda’s music industry.
