Former Miss Uganda Hannah Karema runs for Makerere Guild President

Former Miss Uganda, Hannah Karema Tumukunde, is diving into the race for Guild President at Makerere University, and students couldn’t be more buzzing about it. With elections right around the corner, all eyes are on her!

After being crowned Miss Uganda for 2023–2024, Hannah has used her platform to advocate for students. She took to social media to share her fire, saying:

History at Makerere University has never been written by spectators. It’s written by those who stand up.
Today, I step forward not just to run for Guild President, but to stand for every student who believes Makerere can be more. This is bigger than a campaign.

Having competed at the Miss World event in India, where she snagged 1st Runner-Up for Miss World Africa, Hannah knows a thing or two about handling pressure.

Now back at Makerere, where she’s studying for a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, she’s all fired up to tackle the real issues young people face today.

Hanah Karema’s campaign highlights progress, focusing on fair tuition policies and better support for government-sponsored students. She’s also ready to advocate for political freedoms on campus and address the academic challenges many students face.

The road to the Guild elections kicked off on March 2, 2026, with the announcement of the electoral calendar.

Candidates will have the chance to debate, and voting is set to happen online on March 16, 2026. Once the results are in, the new guild leaders will be sworn in, leading the way for a fresh start in student governance.
