Singer Deus Ndugwa, popularly known as Grenade Official, has reportedly converted to Islam, joining a growing list of Ugandan public figures who have embraced the religion.
The singer is said to have left Christianity and is now a new convert to Islam, a faith that has in recent years attracted several musicians in the Ugandan entertainment industry.
Grenade joins the likes of George William Kigozi, who now goes by Hassan Kigozi, OS Suuna (now Abdul Shakur), Viola Nakitende (now Nahia), and Fred Ssebbaale, who now refers to himself as Ibrahim.
However, Grenade has not yet publicly revealed the Islamic name he intends to adopt. Sources say he is expected to share the name with his fans and followers soon.
The singer reportedly converted while staying overseas, where he is currently based. After videos of his conversion surfaced online, the news sparked mixed reactions from fans and the public.
While some congratulated him on embracing Islam, others questioned his motives, with a section of social media users suggesting the move could be a publicity stunt or tied to undisclosed interests.
