Veteran producer Washington has revealed that a collection of unreleased songs by the iconic Goodlyfe Crew could finally be released—but only after Uganda fully implements its long-awaited copyright law.
For years, speculation has swirled within music circles about a vault of unreleased material recorded by the legendary duo of Moses Radio and Weasel, with fans eagerly awaiting new music from the pair.
Speaking in a recent interview on NRG Radio, Washington said the delay is intentional and aimed at protecting the financial interests of artists and producers.
According to him, the focus is no longer just on releasing music, but ensuring that creators properly benefit from their work through royalties.
“I think Goodlyfe has too much music online that’s being consumed, and people need to appreciate that these gentlemen really worked hard,” he said. “For me, I’m now at a point where we first need to earn royalties from the work we have already created.”
Washington noted that Uganda’s music industry has long struggled with a system where songs gain massive popularity but generate little income for their creators.
His comments revive a long-running debate that intensified after Radio’s death in 2018, when some industry players accused him of holding onto unreleased material from the duo’s peak years.
However, the producer insists he is ready to handle the issue transparently and is open to working with Goodlyfe’s management to review the songs and determine the best way to release them.
The move, he says, will ensure that when the music finally comes out, it benefits everyone involved.
