Ugandan musicians and creatives are celebrating following Parliament’s passage of the Copyright and Neighbouring Rights (Amendment) Bill, 2025.
The bill was approved by a majority vote after its third reading, marking a significant milestone for the country’s creative industry.
The new law is expected to enable artists to earn more from their intellectual property, addressing long-standing concerns over the misuse and unauthorized exploitation of their work.
Speaking to the press, Eddy Kenzo, president of the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), praised H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his support, and also commended Salim Saleh for his role in ensuring the bill’s success. He expressed gratitude and wished them long life for their efforts.
Meanwhile, UNMF second vice president Pallaso shared his excitement on Instagram, describing the development as a major win for creatives and the nation at large.
“Proud to be part of the winning team! The Copyright Amendment Bill has passed in Parliament—big win for the music industry. Now we can earn from our work and contribute more to our nation. This victory came through unity.”
The amendment is a turning point that could strengthen Uganda’s creative economy and empower artists to benefit fairly from their work.
