How a rolex inspired A Pass’ ‘Buwooma’ hit – Sqoop

A Pass’s latest hit “Buwooma,” is currently making waves on TikTok and beyond, but it didn’t begin with a deep emotional story or a late-night epiphany. Instead, it started with a creative block.

A Pass had the beat. It was solid, infectious even, but the words were nowhere to be found.

Each studio session ended the same way: silence, frustration, and unfinished ideas. Determined not to let the track go to waste, he looped in fellow artist Kaboo, who features on the song, giving him a week to try and spark something. But even then, the magic just wouldn’t come.

“I kept going to the studio all week and getting nothing,” A Pass recalled during an interview on KFM. “I was just there thinking, how do I make this thing sweet?”

And then, like many great Ugandan stories, it happened over food.

One casual moment, walking around the studio with a freshly made rolex in hand, the beloved street snack of eggs, vegetables, and chapatti—something clicked. As he took bites, he started humming. Then singing. Then vibing.

“I started singing basing on the rolex because it was actually sweet,” he said, laughing at the memory.

And just like that, “Buwooma” which literally means “sweetness” was born.
