The spark came from a fan on X, who suggested that Kenzo could not match A Pass intellectually. It may have seemed like just another online opinion, but in an industry where reputation is everything, it was enough to trigger a response.
Kenzo’s reply went beyond addressing the fan, opening the door to a wider exchange that quickly pulled A Pass into the spotlight. Known for his sharp tongue and unapologetic views, A Pass did not hold back.
But rather than keep the exchange confined to social media, he proposed a different approach—take the battle back to the roots of the craft.
For A Pass, if there is tension between artists, it should be settled where it matters most: in the music or on stage.
Still, his challenge came with a cutting edge. Even before Kenzo could fully engage, A Pass dismissed him as an “unworthy opponent,” questioning the relevance of his decorated career in the context of a direct artistic clash.
It’s a statement that has raised eyebrows, given Kenzo’s standing as one of Uganda’s most globally recognized artists, with a catalog of international awards and influence that stretches beyond music into industry leadership.
The clash, however, appears to go deeper than personal egos.
On one side is Kenzo, an establishment figure who doubles as president of the Uganda National Musicians Federation, closely associated with industry structures and policy discussions.
On the other is A Pass, a fiercely independent voice who has built his brand on critique, individuality, and artistic expression.
Their perceived political leanings have only added another layer to the tension. A Pass has often been seen aligning with Bobi Wine, while Kenzo has maintained visible ties with Yoweri Museveni—a dynamic that rarely stays separate from the cultural conversation in Uganda.
As the exchanges continue to unfold, what began as a fleeting online remark has evolved into a broader narrative about identity, influence, and the direction of Uganda’s music industry.
Whether it ends in a musical showdown or fades as quickly as it ignited, one thing is certain—the spotlight is firmly on both artists.
