Dancehall artiste Ziza Bafana has sparked fresh debate within the music industry after calling on fellow musicians to break away and form a new federation, citing growing dissatisfaction with the current leadership of the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF).
In a video shared on his TikTok platform, Bafana did not hold back, expressing frustration with what he described as a shift away from the federation’s original mission. According to him, many artists today feel sidelined, unheard, and disconnected from a body that was meant to represent and protect their interests.
He is now actively mobilizing like minded creatives, urging those who feel equally frustrated to join him in building an alternative structure that he believes will better serve artists and restore focus to the industry.
“I’m calling upon all artists who are not satisfied with the way the federation is being run to sign up and we start our own federation. If you feel dissatisfied, let’s do this,” he said.
His remarks have quickly stirred conversation across the entertainment space, with some artists quietly echoing his concerns, while others remain cautious about the idea of a split within an already fragile industry structure.
At the center of the disagreement is a financial dispute tied to SACCO savings. Bafana accuses the federation of failing to refund his money fairly, a claim that appears to have deepened his frustration with the leadership.
The federation, however, has pushed back, maintaining that the amount Bafana demanded exceeded what they were in a position to provide, suggesting a mismatch between expectations and available funds.
While the situation continues to unfold, Bafana’s call has once again exposed underlying tensions within the artist community, raising broader questions about representation, accountability, and trust in industry institutions.
The fallout did not emerge overnight. It traces back to ongoing disputes around SACCO contributions and payouts, issues that have quietly circulated within artist circles for some time, but have now spilled into the public domain through Bafana’s outspoken stance.
