At last, the body of the late Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV has been laid to rest at the Tooro Royal Tombs, bringing an end to a dramatic standoff that overshadowed his final journey.
Reports coming in indicate that the burial proceeded following intervention from President Yoweri Museveni, through Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa and Minister Gen Tumukunde, who are said to have engaged the royal family amid the impasse.
The burial was conducted under heavy security, with UPDF soldiers deployed around the royal burial grounds.
In a dramatic turn of events, reports indicate that Queen Mother Best Kemigisa and Princess Komuntale remained locked inside a vehicle as the burial proceeded.
The late King Oyo was accorded a seven-gun salute as part of the final military honours paid to him.
Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV passed away aged 34, leaving Tooro Kingdom plunged into mourning and a succession dispute that has continued to dominate the kingdom’s affairs.
