Queen Mother Kemigisa praises Sudhir Ruparelia for supporting King Oyo

Queen Mother Best Kemigisa has praised businessman and philanthropist Dr Sudhir Ruparelia for the support and care he gave her late son, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, throughout his life.

Speaking at the burial service for King Oyo at St John’s Cathedral in Fort Portal, Kemigisa recognised Dr Ruparelia among the people who played an important role in the late King’s upbringing.

She revealed that Ruparelia supported King Oyo’s education during his high school years and continued to guide and support him beyond the classroom.

Kemigisa also recalled Oyo’s passion for exercise and physical fitness, saying Ruparelia supported this interest by giving the young King free access to the gym at Speke Resort Munyonyo, one of the Ruparelia Group’s properties.

“Dr Sudhir Ruparelia is among those who educated my son in high school,” Kemigisa said, thanking the businessman for his support towards Oyo.

The Queen Mother said Ruparelia’s contribution went beyond education and fitness, noting that he also offered guidance and helped shape the late King during his formative years.

Thousands of mourners gathered at St John’s Cathedral to pay their final respects to King Oyo, who died on 27 August 2026 at the age of 34.

King Oyo will be laid to rest at Karambi Royal Tombs alongside his royal predecessors.
