The party began long before the first performer stepped onto the stage.
By the time Club Canvas On the Move reached GKAT Resort in Mbarara on Saturday night, the travelling crowd had already spent hours turning a journey from Kampala into an experience of its own.
The convoy set off from Shell Lugogo in the morning, carrying competition winners, content creators and members of the media on Club Canvas-branded buses. Music, games and banter kept the passengers entertained as the group headed west.
Nkozi was the first major stop, where more university students joined the trip. The journey later paused at the Equator, giving travellers time to take photographs and enjoy one of the most recognisable landmarks along the route.
The road trip eventually brought together students from different institutions and revellers from across the region, all converging at GKAT Resort for an evening built around music, entertainment and culture.
Club Canvas On the Move, an initiative by Club Pilsener, combines live performances with experiences drawn from art, fashion, technology and other aspects of contemporary youth culture.
At the Mbarara edition, students from Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Bishop Stuart University, Kampala International University in Ishaka and universities around Nkozi joined the local crowd.
The venue offered several attractions beyond the main stage. Guests explored virtual reality activities, gaming stations, live tattoo artistry and other interactive experiences as the event gathered pace.
The musical programme began with DJ performances, with Mac DJ setting the tone before Riddim Seleckta and Lithan MC took over. DJ Trizzy Vybz, alongside Benjhi MC, later kept the crowd moving, while DJ Alza and MC Dreadlock Dziz maintained the momentum.
Lynda Ddane and Evelyn M!C also featured during the evening, adding to the entertainment as more revellers settled into the party.
Fik Fameica delivered one of the night’s biggest moments when he took the stage. The rapper ran through his popular songs, drawing enthusiastic responses from students and fans who sang along throughout his set.
The event then shifted attention to a familiar voice from the host city.
Truth 256, the Mbarara-born rapper, singer and songwriter, closed the live performances with a set that reflected his musical identity and Ankole roots. Known for blending hip-hop with Runyankore, Luganda and English, he gave the home crowd a performance that felt particularly personal.
His appearance also added a distinctly western Ugandan flavour to an event that had travelled from Kampala through Nkozi before arriving in Mbarara.
DJ Ali Breezy and Lithan MC took charge of the closing hours, keeping the audience entertained after the final live act had left the stage.
By the end of the night, the Mbarara stop had become more than a concert. It was a full-day experience that combined travel, campus culture, interactive entertainment and live music, with the road trip itself becoming part of the attraction.
