Afrigo’s famous home, New Club Obligato, closes – Sqoop

For years, the name New Club Obligato has been synonymous with live music, dancing and, above all, Afrigo Band. But that chapter has come to an end.

The famous entertainment spot, popularly known as the Home of Afrigo Band, has closed its doors after the management announced the end of its tenancy at Teachers House, UNATU Building on Bombo Road.

The closure took effect Monday, September 14, 2026, bringing an end to the club’s stay at the building after what management described as “wonderful years” of serving its customers.

For Afrigo Band fans, however, New Club Obligato was more than just another nightclub. It became a familiar meeting point where generations of music lovers gathered to enjoy the timeless sound of Uganda’s legendary band.

From its lively nights to the regular Afrigo performances, the venue built a loyal following and became part of Kampala’s entertainment culture.

In its farewell message, the management said the decision to close was difficult, citing “a couple of issues” behind the move.

“We have made the difficult decision to close our doors after a couple of issues and wonderful years of serving,” the management said.

The message was also filled with gratitude for the customers who had supported the club throughout its time at Teachers House.

“We want to express our deepest gratitude for your loyalty, kindness and support throughout all this time. You have become more than just customers to us, you are family,” the statement read.

Particular appreciation was reserved for the Afrigo Band fan community, whose association with the venue helped give it a distinctive identity.

“To Afrigo fans group, thank you for making our time here so special. We will forever cherish the memories we created together,” management said.

Management revealed that a new location is already in the making and promised to inform the public once it is confirmed.
