Singer Lydia Jazmine has challenged the idea that a man’s home ownership should determine whether he is worth dating, saying love should take precedence over material possessions.
The singer was responding to the ongoing social media debate about women who choose to date or settle down with men who have not yet built or owned homes.
Appearing as a guest on Shades of Kampala, Jazmine was asked for her thoughts on the increasingly heated conversation. She responded with amusement, questioning whether renting a home should disqualify someone from being in a relationship.
“So you mean people who are renting are not dating? The greatest gift in the world is love; even God said that. I sing love, I preach love, I believe in love. Love is love,” she said.
Jazmine said her outlook is largely shaped by her belief in love, which she described as more important than material wealth. Her comments come amid a wider conversation about the qualities women should look for when choosing partners.
The debate was recently reignited by entrepreneur Susan Makula Bugingo during her speech at Bad Black’s Beauty Beyond The Scars event, where she urged women to know their worth and avoid shedding tears over men who had not yet built homes.
Makula later clarified that her remarks were not intended to demean men who rent, explaining that her message was about encouraging women to consider stability when choosing relationships.
While Makula highlighted stability, Jazmine’s response placed greater emphasis on love, showing the differing views that have emerged from the debate.
