Mark Da Urban has revealed why Wazo Dazo decided to take him on, saying the creative company saw potential in him long before the management deal.
The rising dancehall artist, whose real name is Mark Olule, recently signed an exclusive two-year management deal with Wazo Dazo, a Ugandan creative company and entertainment agency based in Kampala.
Speaking on Sanyuka Uncut, Mark explained that his work had already caught the attention of several people in the industry before Wazo Dazo came on board.
Of course, I have been around doing good things, and they have been seeing them. Very many people have been seeing potential in Mark Da Urban. Wazo Dazo is one of the companies that saw potential in Mark Da Urban and said, “This is the musician we can deal with and work with because he has the talent, he is down to earth and is willing to learn.”
The new management comes with plans to expand Mark’s music through collaborations with artists from Uganda and beyond.
He says he also wants to reconnect with musicians who have been part of his journey from the beginning.
I am going to work with a lot of musicians, and I am still working with them, both international and local, my friends, and even those that I started out with in the ghetto. I am a bridge, and I will connect that gap.
Mark has already started releasing music since joining Wazo Dazo, with “Boda Dream” among the projects launched under the new arrangement.
The song has also grown into a wider project built around the real-life experiences of boda-boda riders in Kampala.
Wazo Dazo took the project to the streets to collect stories, frustrations and dreams from riders, using their experiences to help shape the upcoming street-focused record.
For Mark, the new chapter is therefore about more than simply having a management team behind him.
He is looking to build collaborations, connect different parts of his musical journey and use the platform to take his sound further.
