A 38-year-old man is in police custody in Wakiso after a disturbing video allegedly showing him defiling a four-year-old girl circulated on social media.
Police say the alleged incident took place in Basawuli Village, Bakka Parish, Mende Sub-county, Wakiso District.
According to preliminary information, the suspect, identified by one name as Iyephet Acedra, allegedly carried the four-year-old on his lap before sexually assaulting her.
The video later surfaced on social media, prompting police to begin investigations and trace the suspect.
Acedra has since been arrested and remains in police custody as detectives investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged defilement.
Police say the child will undergo a medical examination as part of the investigation. The examination is expected to provide additional evidence and help establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala condemned the alleged abuse and urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and protect children from sexual abuse.
Police have also appealed to members of the public to promptly report suspected cases of child abuse to the nearest police station or other relevant authorities.
The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
