Spice Diana has a rather blunt take on the future of female artists in Uganda, saying she feels sorry for those just entering the industry.
The “Siri Regular” singer made the remarks during an appearance on NBS After 5, where she spoke about what the future looks like for female artists who have already built careers in the industry and those just starting out.
Speaking about the veterans, Spice pointed to Irene Namatovu and Grace Nakimera as examples of female artists who continue to attract audiences years into their careers.
The ones that have been there for some time, you have seen concerts, for example Mama Irene and Grace Nakimera coming back and doing amazing shows. The future is bright for them.
That optimism extends to artists from her generation who are willing to put in the work.
Then, for us, the future is still bright if you work hard and smart.
The picture looks different, though, when she considers artists who are only starting out.
For the new ones, I feel sorry for them. They are in an industry that has so much going on.
Spice’s comments draw a clear line between artists who have already built their names and those now trying to find their footing.
That gap becomes more noticeable when it comes to the attention each group commands, with veterans still drawing audiences while newcomers enter a much more crowded scene.
And while Spice still sees a future for the new generation, she believes making a name for themselves will require more work and smarter moves than ever.
