Kin Bella denies authenticity of kissing video featuring Shaban

Kin Bella has denied the authenticity of a viral video showing her appearing cozy with a man identified as Shaban aboard an airplane, insisting that the clip was generated using artificial intelligence.

Speaking to Galaxy TV, Kin Bella said she had not yet watched the circulating video in full but acknowledged that she knows Shaban.

She explained that the two were once neighbours and had previously spent time together, but questioned the legitimacy of the footage.

We were once neighbours and in the process we were together, but don’t you think that video is AI? I see the plane isn’t stable as well, I don’t get it. Maybe the video is AI.

Addressing speculation that Shaban had deliberately shared the video to suggest they were in a relationship, Kin Bella dismissed the claims.

She maintained that she has never hidden her relationships from the public and would be open about them if she were dating someone.

“When I get in love, you’ll see,” she said, putting to rest rumors that the viral clip confirms a romantic relationship between the two.

  • MESMERISING! Mali War College chiefs awed by Uganda’s Dei BioPharma Plant, praise push for drug self-reliance

MESMERISING! Mali War College chiefs awed by Uganda’s Dei BioPharma Plant, praise push for drug self-reliance

MATUGGA, Uganda — A high-level Military delegation from 9 African countries currently attending war college studies at the Malian Army War College toured the Dei BioPharma Ltd drugs and vaccines manufacturing campus in Matugga on Wednesday—commending the facility as a model for Africa’s pursuit of pharmaceutical self-reliance.

The Wednesday afternoon visit formed part of a strategic study tour to Uganda hosted by the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces from July 13 to 17. The tour is intended to strengthen bilateral military cooperation and defense relations between Kampala and Bamako.

Brig. Gen. Moussa Yoro Kante, director of education of the Mali Defense Forces, led the delegation of 36 course participants, accompanied by Col. Diallo Belco, Mali’s defense attaché to Uganda.

The multinational cohort comprised officers from nine countries: Mali, Guinea Conakry, Burkina Faso, Niger, Morocco, Togo, Chad, Senegal and Cameroon. Dei BioPharma was identified as a key site for the delegation because of its alignment with the study tour’s objectives.

Addressing journalists after the tour, Gen. Kante expressed profound appreciation for what the delegation observed.

“The visit this evening allowed us to see beautiful things. I would like to congratulate Dr. Magoola for everything he is doing in the field of biotechnology,” Gen. Kante said. “What the members of the fifth cohort and I have seen here inspires us in more ways than one. The work here is mesmerizing.”

Gen. Kante said he is confident the visiting officers will convey their observations to their respective countries.

“I hope that each of these trainees, upon returning home, will be able to bear witness to what we have seen here at Dei BioPharma,” Gen. Kante said, adding that “what we are going to take home is the example we saw here.”

Responding to remarks by Dr. Matthias Magoola, the company’s founder and managing director, regarding his ambition to extend the enterprise across the continent, Gen. Kante extended an invitation on behalf of the delegation.

“As Dr. Magoola said, he wants to go everywhere in Africa. We will be very happy to receive him very soon,” Gen. Kante said.

Dr. Magoola told reporters that the delegation’s response affirmed the significance of the undertaking.

“I think you have heard the students’ feedback regarding what they have seen here; it is clearly eye-opening for them. Many had not seen anything like this before,” Dr. Magoola said. “This is not surprising, as only a few countries, such as Morocco and Egypt, have attempted to move into manufacturing. Some of the students are from those regions, yet you heard them say they have not seen anything like this elsewhere. It is humbling, and it shows that what we are doing here will not only uplift the economy of Uganda but Africa at large.”

Asked to elaborate on Uganda’s offer to share pharmaceutical formulas with other African nations at no cost, subject to a formal request addressed to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Dr. Magoola attributed the initiative to the head of state’s Pan-African convictions.

“This is the president’s vision. As a true Pan-Africanist, he believes that we must ensure Africa can afford these drugs. By offering this, we are inviting other nations to collaborate with us,” Dr. Magoola said. “Africa does not need to depend on others for vaccine and drug manufacturing. I am operating in that spirit of Pan-Africanism that our president consistently emphasizes.”

On the question of why Uganda, like much of the continent, continues to import the majority of its medicines, Dr. Magoola identified technological capacity as the principal constraint.

“The problem is a lack of technology. Africa currently imports 85 percent of its medicine. Whether in South Africa, Morocco, or Egypt, we all face this dependency because we have lacked the necessary technology,” Dr. Magoola said, noting that the company has developed its own innovations, secured patents in the United States and established the technical capability to manufacture vaccines and medicines domestically.

Drawing attention to the continent’s economic position — a population of 1.4 billion people with a gross domestic product of approximately $3 trillion, against a single U.S. financial company valued at $1.2 trillion — Dr. Magoola argued that domestic pharmaceutical manufacturing will serve as a catalyst for continental prosperity.

“We believe that, for the first time, real parity is going to come from Africa,” Dr. Magoola said. “Our ultimate vision is to make these biological drugs, which 90 percent of our population currently cannot afford, accessible and affordable. Once we produce them here, we will not only meet local needs but also supply the rest of the continent, thereby improving the GDP of Africa as a whole.”

Dr. Chetna Jain, chief executive officer of Dei BioPharma Ltd., said the visit reflected the company’s growing recognition across the continent.

“Regarding this visit, it means a lot to us. It shows that what we are doing here is being recognized across Africa,” Dr. Jain said. “People are aware of Dei BioPharma, and they are willing to come here and collaborate with us after seeing what we have developed. This is a state-of-the-art facility within the African continent, and I do not believe any other state in Africa has anything like it.”

The Matugga facility has emerged as one of the most significant industrial undertakings in the region. Established in 2014 by Ugandan scientist Dr. Magoola, Dei BioPharma operates one of Africa’s largest vaccine and drug manufacturing complexes. Its flagship plant was inaugurated in July 2021 by President Museveni and then-Kenyan Deputy President William Ruto.

The campus occupies more than 250 acres and is designed to produce medicines across a broad range of therapeutic areas — including treatments for malaria, HIV and cancer, as well as insulin, monoclonal antibodies and mRNA-based therapeutics — through approximately 30 manufacturing units.

Uganda’s National Drug Authority licensed the company in May 2024 to commence the manufacture of medicines, including non-beta-lactam tablets and hard gelatin capsules. The complex comprises nine sections covering biotech, injectables, warehousing, generics, nutraceuticals, penicillin, cephalosporin, oncology and virus vaccines.

The firm holds more than 100 patents filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and is preparing to produce 1 billion doses of mRNA vaccines in accordance with international standards, including those of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the European Medicines Agency and the World Health Organization. Projections estimate the creation of more than 40,000 professional jobs. Senior officials in Uganda’s finance and health ministries have endorsed the plant as a potential engine of economic growth capable of substantially reducing the country’s medicine import expenditure.

The tour of the pharmaceutical campus concluded a week of broader military engagements. Speaking on behalf of the visiting delegation earlier in the tour, Gen. Kante thanked President Museveni for his continued support toward strengthening the capacity of the Malian Armed Forces through military training.

Receiving the delegation at the Defence Intelligence and Security Headquarters in Mbuya, UPDF Chief of Joint Staff Lt. Gen. Jack Bakasumba, speaking on behalf of the chief of defence forces, noted that Uganda and Mali maintain a robust defense partnership under a memorandum of understanding on military training. Under this agreement, 58 Malian officer cadets have been trained to date.

During that engagement, Gen. Kante announced that Mali has offered the UPDF 23 training slots, including one at the Mali War College.

At least 20 pupils from King David Junior School in Ndejje have died and more than 60 others were injured after their school bus crashed at Chekwatit Hill in Kawowo Sub-county, Kapchorwa District.

The pupils were returning from a study tour on Thursday evening when the bus, registration number UA 108BQ, reportedly developed a mechanical fault. According to preliminary findings, the driver lost control of the vehicle before it crashed at around 8:00pm.

The Uganda Police Force confirmed the accident, saying the bus was transporting pupils from King David Junior School when the crash occurred at Chekwatit Village in Kimawa Parish, Kawowo Sub-county. Police said investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing but did not immediately confirm the number of fatalities.

Hours later, Minister of Local Government Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, who was on an official tour of Eastern Uganda, visited the crash scene and confirmed that 20 pupils and one adult had died.

The deceased adult was identified as the school’s founder and director, Tadeo Ssekade.

In a post on X, Balaam said nine critically injured pupils had been admitted to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital, while 16 others were receiving treatment at Kaserem Health Centre. Three more were admitted to Bulambuli Health Centre IV, with the remaining injured taken to Kapchorwa Hospital.

Sipi Regional Police spokesperson Fredmark Chesang said preliminary investigations indicate that the crash was likely caused by a mechanical failure.

He added that eyewitnesses told investigators the bus had made several stopovers before the accident, and police are working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the crash.

Police officers, emergency responders and local residents worked together to rescue victims, many of whom were trapped inside the wrecked bus. ENTEBBE, UGANDA —

For years, the journey from Kitooro to Nakiwogo Landing Site told a familiar story of a city caught between its global importance and local infrastructure challenges.

The same roads that carried tourists from Entebbe International Airport, traders from Mpigi District and passengers heading to Lake Victoria islands also carried the burden of dust, congestion, poor drainage and delays.

    Today, that story is changing.

The roar of excavators, graders and heavy machinery has replaced the silence of neglected roads along the Kitooro–Kiwafu–Nakiwogo (KKN) corridor, where a Shs22.7 billion infrastructure project is redefining movement, trade and urban life in Uganda’s gateway municipality.

From Kitooro Market, where more than 650 vendors depend on daily customer access, to Nakiwogo Landing Site, where thousands of passengers connect across Lake Victoria, the road project is becoming a symbol of how strategic infrastructure investment can transform ordinary livelihoods.

For decades, Entebbe Municipality has carried the prestigious identity of being Uganda’s gateway to the world.

It is the city that welcomes international visitors through Entebbe International Airport, hosts the country’s State House, attracts tourists to the shores of Lake Victoria and serves as a strategic link between Uganda and the global economy.

But behind this international image lies a growing urban centre facing increasing pressure from population growth, expanding businesses, rising tourism activities and the demand for modern infrastructure.

Today, Entebbe is witnessing what local leaders describe as a road renaissance — a transformation driven by deliberate investment in urban infrastructure.

The ongoing Kitooro–Kiwafu–Nakiwogo (KKN) Road reconstruction project represents a new chapter in the municipality’s development journey.

The project, officially titled “Construction of Selected Roads in Entebbe Municipal Council: Lot 3; Reconstruction of Kitooro–Kiwafu–Nakiwogo (KKN) Road,” covers a 4.30-kilometre road stretch within Entebbe Municipality.

The project is funded by the World Bank through the International Development Association (IDA) and the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) through the Ministry of Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs (MOKCC&MA) on behalf of the Government of Uganda.

The Employer and Contracting Authority is Entebbe Municipal Council.

The contract reference number is ENTE705/GKMA/WRKS/2024-2025/00003.

The contract was signed on 8 January 2025, with construction commencing on 28 February 2025.

The works are being undertaken by M/s Armpass Technical Services Ltd, under an 18-month contract duration, excluding the 365-day Defect Liability Period.

The total contract amount is UGX 22,698,335,250 (Twenty-Two Billion, Six Hundred Ninety-Eight Million, Three Hundred Thirty-Five Thousand Two Hundred Fifty Shillings), VAT inclusive.

The contract payments are made entirely in Uganda Shillings, with a 10 percent retention on Interim Payment Certificates (IPCs) to safeguard quality and ensure contractual obligations are fulfilled.

Supervision of the works is being undertaken by M/s Segamu 14 Consults Ltd, while environmental and social safeguards are being monitored by M/s Ardent International Services Ltd.

The project scope includes reconstruction of the road, drainage improvement, pedestrian walkways, parking facilities, road safety infrastructure and installation of street lighting aimed at improving mobility, security and urban order.

The KKN Road connects Kitooro towards Nakiwogo Landing Site — one of Uganda’s busiest ferry terminals linking Entebbe to Buwaya and communities across Lake Victoria.

The improved road network is expected to benefit thousands of users, including traders transporting agricultural produce from Mpigi District, ferry passengers, tourists travelling to the Ssese Islands and travellers using Entebbe International Airport.

For traders at Kitooro Market, the project represents more than construction.

    It represents opportunity.

According to Ms Christine Damalie Nassozi, the Market Administrator, improved roads are creating better conditions for traders, farmers and businesses that depend on Entebbe’s transport network.

“The government’s continued investment in roads is opening up business opportunities for our vendors. Better roads make it easier for farmers, traders, tourists and transporters to reach the market, which directly improves household incomes,” Ms Nassozi said.

She explained that roads remain the foundation of economic growth because they connect communities, markets and investment opportunities.

“Roads are the foundation of development. They support trade, improve movement of people and goods, attract investment and make service delivery more efficient. The ongoing road projects in Entebbe are changing the face of the municipality,” she added.

For more than 650 vendors operating at Kitooro Market, the improved road network is changing their daily business environment.

According to Ms Najjita Fatuma, Vice Chairperson of Food Sellers at Kitooro Market, the roads have become central to daily business operations.

“Many people use these roads for their daily businesses. The improvement has reduced dust, improved the environment around the market and attracted more clients who can now access the market easily,” Ms Najjita said.

She explained that improved road conditions have created a cleaner and more welcoming environment for customers and traders.

Among those experiencing the impact is Mr Jonathan Tukundane, a chicken seller at Kitooro Market, who sells broiler chickens ranging from Shs20,000 to Shs40,000 alongside local chicken varieties.

Mr Tukundane said the road improvements have contributed to development in the area by making it easier for customers to access the market.

“The roads have brought development in this area because customers can now access the market more easily. Better transport means better business opportunities for us as traders,” he said.

He appealed for continued government support through economic empowerment programmes, including increased Parish Development Model (PDM) funding, to enable small traders to expand their businesses.

“More support through programmes like PDM can help small traders grow their businesses, increase incomes and improve the livelihoods of families,” he added.

Beyond improving movement and reducing transport challenges, local leaders say the Kitooro–Kiwafu–Nakiwogo road project is expected to strengthen Entebbe’s commercial environment by attracting investors and supporting business growth.

According to Mr Stephen Mulindwa, Head of Trade and Economic Development at Entebbe Municipality, the road development represents the transformation journey that Entebbe has undergone and the direction the municipality is taking.

Mr Mulindwa said improved infrastructure demonstrates how Entebbe is moving from facing historical urban challenges towards becoming a more organised and attractive destination for investors, businesses and economic activities.

“The road development is important because it shows where Entebbe Municipality has come from and where it is going. It brings development and encourages investors to come and do business in the area,” Mr Mulindwa said.

He explained that better roads improve access to markets, reduce transport costs and create an enabling environment for traders and investors to expand their businesses.

However, Mr Mulindwa noted that urban transformation must be accompanied by responsible behaviour from residents and traders to protect the gains achieved through infrastructure investment.

He raised concern over some reckless vendors operating along Kitooro Market, especially during Tuesday market days, where improper disposal of waste along roadways exposes the community to health and hygiene risks.

“As we develop our infrastructure, we must also improve our responsibility towards cleanliness. Some vendors who dispose of waste along roadways affect public health and undermine the beauty of the municipality,” he said.

He urged traders, residents and visitors to work together with municipal authorities in maintaining cleanliness and protecting the improved road infrastructure.

  • Dr. Musoke Kisanja launches Four- Acre Model farm in Mityana to boost commercial agriculture

Dr. Musoke Kisanja launches Four- Acre Model farm in Mityana to boost commercial agriculture

The Senior Presidential Advisor on Agribusiness and Value Addition, Dr. Hillary Emmanuel Musoke Kisanja, has launched the SENTFARM Agribusiness Hub “Awaka”, a model demonstration farm in Ssebobo Village, Mityana District, as part of efforts to promote commercial agriculture and household wealth creation.

Speaking during the launch yesterday, Dr. Kisanja said the demonstration farm aligns with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s Four-Acre Model initiative, which seeks to transform smallholder farming into profitable commercial enterprises through modern and sustainable agricultural practices.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting modern farming, increasing household incomes, and accelerating socio-economic transformation through agriculture.

Owned by Robert Ssentamu and his wife, Racheal Birabwa Ssentamu, the demonstration farm showcases practical and affordable farming technologies, including mature coffee plantations, banana gardens, and coffee seedlings irrigated using recycled plastic bottles—a water conservation technique first demonstrated by President Museveni at his Kawumu demonstration farm.

Dr. Kisanja encouraged farmers to embrace the Four-Acre Model as a business-oriented approach capable of generating sustainable income even on small land holdings.

He explained that under the model, farmers are encouraged to dedicate one acre to food crops, another to fruits, a third to high-value enterprises such as dairy farming, poultry, piggery or fish farming, while the remaining acre is reserved for pasture production. He added that households with less than four acres can also adapt the model to maximise productivity.

“Many people have practised farming for years without escaping poverty because they have not treated it as a business. The President introduced the Four-Acre Model to help Ugandans maximise productivity and earn income throughout the year,” Dr. Kisanja said.

The farm owners commended President Museveni for championing agriculture as a pathway to wealth creation, noting that the initiative inspired them to transition from operating a hardware business in Kampala’s Nakasero Market to commercial farming following the economic disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

While appreciating the government’s continued support for agriculture, the couple highlighted water scarcity and limited access to agricultural extension services as key challenges affecting productivity. They appealed for increased investment in irrigation infrastructure, mechanisation and extension services to enable more farmers to benefit from commercial agriculture.

Responding to the concerns, Dr. Kisanja acknowledged the challenges and pledged to work with district leaders to strengthen the demonstration farm and develop it into a centre of excellence where other Four-Acre Model farmers can acquire practical knowledge and skills.

He also urged farmers to organise themselves into groups to improve their access to government programmes, noting that organised farmer associations are better positioned to benefit from government support and agricultural services.

Dr. Kisanja further encouraged Ugandans to take full advantage of the country’s fertile soils and abundant natural resources, describing agriculture as one of the strongest drivers of household wealth creation and national economic transformation.

He also called on farmers to preserve indigenous seed varieties while embracing modern farming technologies, improved seedlings, organic fertilisers and better post-harvest handling practices to enhance productivity and competitiveness.

The launch attracted local leaders, farmers and development partners, including African-American Pan-Africanist Queen Nina Womack from Los Angeles, California, who is visiting Uganda under an agro-tourism programme.

Ms. Womack praised Uganda’s vast agricultural potential and described Africans as hardworking, innovative and passionate about agriculture. She encouraged stronger partnerships between Africa and the African diaspora to unlock investment opportunities in agribusiness and value addition.

Dr. Kisanja, in turn, called upon African Americans and other international investors to explore Uganda’s enormous agricultural potential, particularly in irrigation, agricultural technology, value addition and modern storage facilities, noting that the government remains committed to supporting genuine investors.

The launch of the SENTFARM Agribusiness Hub marks another milestone in advancing President Museveni’s vision of commercial agriculture by demonstrating practical farming solutions that can increase productivity, improve household incomes and contribute to Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.

The launch took place on Wednesday at the Uganda Media Centre under the supervision of Mr. Allan Kasujja, Executive Director of the Uganda Media Centre.

Ssenoga was joined by Union Transport Alliance Ambassador Alice Natukunda, transport sector leaders, women’s groups, development partners and several newly elected Members of Parliament to Uganda’s Twelfth Parliament, who pledged support for the nationwide campaign.

A major highlight of the event was the endorsement of Ms. Daina Ampaire of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) as the official Face of the Union Sanitary Pads Campaign. She will spearhead awareness campaigns encouraging schools, communities, charitable organizations and corporate companies to support menstrual hygiene among school-going girls.

Addressing journalists, Ssenoga announced that Union Sanitary Pads would be supplied to schools at Shs20,000 per package, enough to support one learner for an entire academic year.

The initiative primarily targets students while also serving working women and low-income households.

“We are targeting students because education should never stop because of menstruation. Every girl deserves to remain in school with dignity, confidence and good health,” Ssenoga said.

He explained that the idea behind Union Sanitary Pads was inspired by the daily struggles experienced by women during their menstrual periods.

According to Ssenoga, many women become physically weak and emotionally affected during menstruation, reducing their concentration and productivity both at work and at home.

“During their menstrual periods, many women become physically weak and mentally unstable because of the discomfort they experience. Some struggle to perform effectively at work while others find it difficult to carry out family responsibilities. That is why we created Union Sanitary Pads—to restore confidence, comfort and dignity to every woman and every girl child,” he said.

Ssenoga stressed that access to menstrual hygiene products should never depend on one’s financial status.

Instead, he said, affordable sanitary pads should be viewed as an investment in education, women’s health and Uganda’s future.

The launch forms part of Union Transport Alliance’s wider “Kili Clear Campaign,” which promotes confidence, comfort and affordability among women and girls.

Many school-going girls continue to miss lessons because they cannot afford sanitary pads, while others resort to unsafe alternatives that expose them to infections and other health risks.

Union Transport Alliance believes affordable sanitary products can significantly reduce school absenteeism while giving girls the confidence to participate fully in education.

The sanitary pads are manufactured using breathable materials and natural wood pulp to provide comfort, safety and reliable protection.

Company officials say the product has been developed specifically for students, working women and low-income families seeking quality menstrual hygiene products at affordable prices.

Addressing the gathering, Union Transport Alliance Ambassador Alice Natukunda appealed to schools, churches, non-governmental organisations and corporate institutions to support the campaign.

“We appeal to schools, companies and charitable organisations to partner with us by purchasing Union Sanitary Pads for students. Together we can reduce period poverty and ensure every girl remains in school,” Natukunda said.

The campaign also received a major boost from Ruka Pay, one of the strategic sponsors supporting the initiative.

Speaking during the launch, Ms. Margret Nasuwa, Brand Marketing Manager for Ruka Pay, thanked Union Transport Alliance for partnering with the company to improve menstrual hygiene among girls.

“We thank Union Transport Alliance for trusting us as one of the sponsors of the Union Sanitary Pads campaign. This partnership gives hope to thousands of girls who should never miss school because they cannot afford sanitary pads,” Nasuwa said.

She pledged that Ruka Pay would continue working closely with Union Transport Alliance to ensure the sanitary pads reach schools across Uganda.

“As Ruka Pay, we are fully committed to this partnership. We shall work with Union Transport Alliance to ensure Union Sanitary Pads are distributed in schools across Uganda. Investing in the girl child is investing in the future of our nation,” she added.

Speaking shortly after her endorsement as the campaign ambassador, Ms. Akampaire pledged to use her platform to advocate for girls’ education and menstrual health.

“No girl should miss school because she cannot afford a sanitary pad. I am honoured to serve as the face of this campaign, and I will work with Union Transport Alliance and our partners to ensure these products reach schools and vulnerable communities across Uganda,” she said.

For Union Transport Alliance, the launch represents far more than introducing another consumer product.

It is an investment in girls’ education.

It is a commitment to women’s health.

And it is a contribution towards restoring dignity to thousands of girls who continue to face unnecessary barriers simply because of menstruation.

As the Kili Clear Campaign rolls out nationwide, Ssenoga believes the initiative will help ensure that every girl remains in class, every woman works with confidence and every family benefits from improved health and dignity.

“When you support a girl to stay in school, you are investing in Uganda’s future. That is the vision behind Union Sanitary Pads,” Ssenoga concluded.
