KABAROLE— In a major push to revive environmental conservation and boost local tourism, a high-level delegation of political and technical leaders from Kapchorwa District recently concluded a study tour and engagement at the Kibale Conservation Area (KCA) in Kabarole District.

The engagement focused heavily on strategies for environmental restoration, sustainable conservation, and fostering a peaceful human-wildlife relationship.

The delegation—which included the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Mr. Bayole Stanley, LCV Chairperson Mr. Chelimo Vincent, the Deputy CAO, the District Speaker, and several district councilors—was received by the Chief Warden of Kibale Conservation Area, Mr. John Justice.

Addressing the leaders, Mr. John Justice emphasized that successful environmental restoration begins with a mindset shift. He noted that communities must first learn to appreciate and love tourism.

“It is through a genuine love for tourism that local communities will find the true motivation to restore game reserves and protect our environment, ultimately bringing direct revenue into their societies,” the Chief Warden educated.

Mr. DS Tugume, the CEO of the Kibale Conservation Area network, the Kapchorwa leaders toured Isunga Village Isunga Parish, Kasenda Sub-county Kabarole district to see community-led conservation in action.

During an interaction with the locals, Mr. Karusigarira Bernard, the LC1 Chairman of Isunga Village, praised their thriving partnership with the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA). Increased income through Paid labor in the forest, craft-making, and cultural dance groups for tourists.

The delegation also visited key ecological sites in the region, including the Kanyachu Kibale Tourism Center and the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, both renowned hubs for eco-tourism.

Impressed by the tangible benefits witnessed in Kabarole, Kapchorwa LCV Chairperson Mr. Chelimo Vincent committed to mirroring these exact strategies back home to elevate Kapchorwa’s tourism landscape.

Organizing routine regional workshops so local communities receive first-hand information on conservation and safe human-wildlife co-existence and Pushing for better road networks to ensure tourists have easy access to Kapchorwa’s unique attraction sites.

The Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Mr. Bayole Stanley, extended his gratitude to UWA for organizing the study tour, noting that it opened their eyes to the immense value of forest preservation.

Mr. Bayole strongly advocated for a long-term approach, urging UWA to help lobby for and provide free tree seedlings to Kapchorwa residents. He also stressed the importance of catching the next generation early.

“Educating our young ones at an early age about conservation and human-wildlife relationships will create a lasting impact in the region,” Mr. Bayole Stanley noted.

The RDC closed by promising full administrative support to ensure these restoration ideas are actively taught and implemented across Kapchorwa District.

A handwritten note recovered from the scene where a Senior Four student at Naalya Senior Secondary School, Bweyogerere Campus, was found dead has become a central piece of evidence in the ongoing police investigation, though authorities say its authenticity and the exact circumstances of the student’s death are still being established.

The student, identified as Naish Trevor Mamuz, was found dead inside the school on the evening of 8th July 2026. According to the school’s spokesperson, Dr John Bossa, the note was recovered by police after the toilet where the student was found had been opened.

Dr Bossa said the student had been unwell in recent months and had been permitted to go home for treatment before returning to school about a week before his death. He added that the student had appeared to settle back into school life, performing well academically and interacting normally with classmates, which made his death a shock to both staff and students.

Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire cautioned the public against drawing conclusions at this stage, stressing that investigators have not yet confirmed how the student died or whether the recovered note was genuinely written by him.

“The note has been secured and is being examined as part of the investigation. We want to establish whether he indeed took his own life or not. We do not want people to speculate at this stage. We shall also establish whether the note was written by him or by someone else,” Owoyesigyire said.

The student’s mother, Vivian Lekuru, said the family was too distraught to comment publicly and would wait for the outcome of police investigations before speaking further.

The case has added to growing concern over the number of student deaths reported in schools and universities in recent years. Education stakeholders have repeatedly pointed to academic pressure, family expectations, and limited access to mental health and counselling services as factors contributing to emotional distress among learners, and have continued to call for stronger school-based counselling programmes and greater institutional attention to students’ wellbeing.

KAMPALA — The Ministry of Education and Sports, in partnership with VIVA con Agua Uganda, has successfully validated a new set of Universal Language for Change Manuals and Facilitator’s Guides, marking a major milestone in the drive to improve Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) practices in Ugandan schools.

The high-level stakeholders’ validation workshop drew representatives from key government ministries, development partners, and frontline educators. The team conducted a comprehensive review of the new training materials ahead of their national rollout.

Driving behavioral change

Speaking at the opening of the workshop, George Aribo, the Chief Executive Officer of VIVA con Agua Uganda, commended the Ministry of Education and Sports for taking the lead in championing the initiative.

“This initiative would not have been possible without the leadership of the Ministry of Education and Sports and the commitment of our partners,” Aribo said. “Together, we are laying a strong foundation for positive behavioural change among learners and communities.”

Musa Birungi, representing the Ministry of Education and Sports, echoed these sentiments, thanking development partners and teachers for their ongoing collaboration in advancing school-based WASH programmes.

Birungi emphasized that strong strategic partnerships remain vital to ensuring learners have access to safe water, improved sanitation, and hygiene education—all of which are directly linked to better learning outcomes and healthier school environments.

Call for synergy, focus on refugee host communities

The Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), represented by Chief Guest Ms. Babiringa Ekinya Christine, urged government institutions to break down silos and work more cohesively.

She challenged the Ministry of Education and Sports, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Water and Environment to deepen their collaboration to deliver seamless, integrated WASH interventions.

KAMPALA — Speke Resort Munyonyo will this Saturday host a One-Day Pony Camp, offering children an opportunity to learn horse riding and basic equestrian skills through a fun-filled holiday programme.

The camp, scheduled for Saturday, July 11, 2026, will run from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and is designed for both beginners and children with previous riding experience.

Organised at the resort’s equestrian centre, the programme aims to introduce participants to the world of horses through practical lessons led by experienced instructors in a safe and supervised environment.

Children will receive hands-on training in horse riding, grooming, feeding, saddling and bridling, while also learning essential horse safety practices and stable management. The day will feature lead-rein pony rides for beginners, a basic jumping demonstration and swimming sessions as part of the recreational activities.

According to the organisers, the camp is intended to nurture confidence, discipline, responsibility and teamwork while encouraging children to spend more time outdoors during the school holidays.

Speke Resort Munyonyo has become one of Uganda’s premier destinations for equestrian activities, regularly hosting riding lessons, pony camps and family-friendly horse experiences that attract participants from across the country.

Participation costs UGX 100,000 per child, with organisers advising parents to book early as places are limited.

Ugandan fashion designer Abbas Kaijuka has achieved a major career milestone after staging a solo runway showcase of his Kai’s Divo Collection in Uganda.

The show took place during the Miss Universe Uganda 2026 Sashing Ceremony, where the pageant also unveiled and officially sashed its 15 finalists heading to the next stage of the competition.

Known for showcasing his designs at major fashion events across East Africa, including Kampala Fashion Week and Swahili Fashion Week, Kaijuka described the homecoming showcase as a special moment that allowed him to present years of creativity to a Ugandan audience.

The runway presentation featured three carefully curated collections, each telling a unique story through colour, fabric and design.

The opening collection embraced shades of white and gold, creating a soft, elegant and angelic look inspired by peace, hope and dreams. Kaijuka said the designs were intended to give the feeling of being lifted into a calm and heavenly space.

The second collection shifted to bold black outfits, reflecting strength, confidence and freedom. According to the designer, black has always symbolised empowerment and individuality in his work.

The final collection was the evening’s most diverse. It began with striking red designs representing love before transitioning into green pieces inspired by nature. Guests were then treated to hand-painted garments, each created as a unique work of art.

Kaijuka also showcased a rare mix of polka dots and stripes, explaining that he deliberately combined patterns that are rarely used together to challenge conventional fashion trends.

The show concluded with a standout leather collection featuring custom-made prints inspired by Vogue magazine covers. Kaijuka revealed that he developed the material several years ago and had preserved it for the right occasion, making its runway debut in Uganda especially meaningful.

Beyond celebrating fashion, the event also marked an important milestone for the Miss Universe Uganda competition as the 15 contestants were officially introduced to the public ahead of the grand finale.

The legal battle between NFL star Stefon Diggs and social media influencer Christopher Blake Griffith has entered another stage after Griffith submitted more than 100 pages of text messages and Instagram direct messages as part of the ongoing court proceedings.

According to newly filed court documents, the communications include conversations exchanged through iMessage and Instagram that Griffith says support his account of the events at the centre of the dispute.

The documents were filed as part of the discovery process after Diggs’ legal team sought additional communications related to the case.

The lawsuit stems from Griffith’s allegations that Diggs drugged and sexually assaulted him following an encounter in 2023.

Diggs has repeatedly denied the allegations and maintains that Griffith fabricated the claims. The NFL star previously filed a defamation lawsuit against Griffith, who later responded with a countersuit, further escalating the legal dispute.

In the latest filing, Griffith argued that he has now produced the requested communications. He also contended that Diggs previously had access to many of the messages before Griffith blocked him on Instagram.

The text messages and direct messages have not been released publicly, and the court has not determined whether they support either side’s claims.

Both parties continue to dispute the allegations, and the case remains active.

Nigerian singer Brymo has reignited his long-running feud with Burna Boy, declaring that the Grammy-winning artist “must pay” for what he believes was an offense against him.

Brymo made the remarks during a recent appearance on the NotJustOk podcast, where he reflected on his years-long dispute with Burna Boy.

Their public feud dates back to 2023, when Brymo accused Burna Boy of drawing inspiration from his work. Burna Boy has never accepted that allegation and later released a viral freestyle that included the lyric, “Hustle make you no fall off like Brymo.”

Reflecting on the lyric, Brymo said Burna Boy’s name would never appear in any of his songs because he does not consider the Afrobeats star his peer.

Your name no go ever appears for my song for life. You are too small, who is your mate? I do not care what fraternity you belong to. He has wronged me and I must take revenge.

Brymo also suggested that he had no intention of letting the dispute end quietly, saying Burna Boy had underestimated the situation.
