Media personality and deejay DJ Nimrod has declared that DJs who have been criticizing him will not benefit from the Shs110 million recently secured to support DJs through their SACCO.
The money was obtained through the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), led by musician Eddy Kenzo, as part of government support to creative industry associations.
Nimrod, who serves as president of the United Deejays Association of Uganda, confirmed that the funds have already been deposited on the association’s account and will be managed alongside the SACCO leadership to help registered DJs grow their businesses.
However, he made it clear that those who have been attacking him publicly should not expect to benefit.
“They can call me names, but I don’t care. I got Shs110 million,” Nimrod said during a television interview, adding that only DJs who attend association meetings and register under the federation will be considered.
According to him, the fund is meant to operate through a SACCO arrangement where DJs can borrow money and repay it with a small interest to help grow their creative ventures.
The announcement comes amid ongoing tensions within the DJ community. A group of DJs led by DJ Danny Yoo recently accused Nimrod of neglecting his role as spokesperson for the association and mishandling previous relief funds meant for creatives during the COVID-19 lockdown.
The DJs alleged that Nimrod mismanaged the earlier support and even sold relief food meant for struggling DJs—claims he strongly denies.
Responding to the criticism, Nimrod questioned the credibility of some of his critics.
“Have they ever done a show? Have they been abroad before? I don’t know those ones abusing me,” he said.
He also revealed that he plans to take Shs1 million from the Shs110 million to give to his mother as a token of appreciation for raising him.
“I have got Shs110 million for the DJs and I’m going to give Shs1 million to my mother to thank her for giving birth to me. The rest of the money will be handled together with the treasurer and we see how to distribute it among fellow DJs,” he said.
Nimrod further argued that all DJs were invited to meetings where the SACCO plans were discussed and insisted that those who did not attend should not blame him for missing out.
He advised critics who feel sidelined to form their own association and register it under the federation if they wish to benefit from similar funding.
